1 John 5:14 "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us."

Matthew 10:7-8 "As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give." One day in Mozambique, my team and I were summoned into a small dark home and asked to pray for a sick woman named Denisia. She suffered from stomach and heart pain as well as severe headaches. Sickness is rampant in Africa and people often die due to lack of proper medical care, so prayer or “traditional medicine (sorcery)” is the only option. A few of us gathered around her and began praying, that's when things got weird. I can't describe the thick, tangible, atmosphere present in that small house and the tension I felt in my spirit. Suddenly, all the pain moved to her throat. We continued praying. Again the pain moved, but this time to her lower back. After quite a while of praying, the pain was gone. The Lord had healed her! Her whole countenance changed. We really believed what she was experiencing was demonic. Sure enough, Denisia confessed that she had been encouraged by her sister-in-law to visit a witch doctor. My friend Josh asked if the witch doctor had given her anything. Sheepishly, she brought out a tub of herbs. Marley, our right hand African man and translator, advised that it be burned immediately. I stood and observed as he dug a hole and began to light the tub and its contents on fire. While it was burning, she brought out two more bags of powder. After everything was burned and buried, we prayed over her house and the family. Then the biggest miracle of all happened- her three children gave their lives to the Lord and received salvation! Praise Him! Spiritual warfare is real, but through Christ Jesus we already have the victory!
The past two years I have seen the Lord do some pretty amazing things. I want to share them with you, so this summer I will be posting testimonies every week. I hope this will encourage you and stir your faith for what God is doing in the nations. I'll start with a story that happened last week at the University of Minnesota during the Hillsong United concert. My friend David and I were asked to run a booth at the concert and recruit for Bethany College of Missions. We passed out flyers and even enticed people with candy but no one was interested. It was a little discouraging, so to shake things up a bit I decided to make a "free prayer" sign. Finally, people started coming to our booth but instead of receiving information about our school, they were receiving prayer and encouragement. They were all strangers to us but God knows them. He gave David and me specific words and pictures which spoke directly into their situations. Everyone was encouraged and blessed; several people even left in tears having encountered the Lord. I was having a stressful week with finals and packing but after this evening I felt so refreshed! God is so willing to move we just have to step out in faith and be a willing vessel for him to use. What is one way you can step out and be a part of bringing His kingdom to earth this week? |
